Triton® DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy may be your answer for non-surgical pain relief of neck, lower back, sciatic nerve, pinched nerve pain and more. Please contact us to learn all that Triton® DTS therapy can offer you.

  • Treatment
  • Stabilization of Structure
  • Support of Muscular System

PHASE I: The Spinal Decompression Treatment Begins
habspine.jpg
Through injury and as the spine begins to age, you lose space between the spinal bones (vertebrae). This in turn usually creates tears in the outer fibers of the disc causing outward bulging and some degree of compression on the joints and nerves at this level, thus creating pain. This is termed Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD).

Triton® DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy is performed on a specially designed table in either a face up or face down position. Clinical consideration and your comfort are used in deciding which position will be best for you. We may begin in one position, but in later sessions it may be necessary to change positions. You will remain fully dressed during the treatment though we recommend wearing loose fitting clothes, and removal of your belt and objects from your pockets.

You will be comfortably positioned on the table and fitted with a wrap-around harness. This restraint is what allows the unloading of the spine and discs by the computer controlled traction mechanism. Your position on the table, the harness and angle of the gentle distraction allows for accurate and focused treatment to the affected disc. Once comfortable on the Triton®DTS, the computer controlled traction device is programmed to deliver a gentle stretching force to the spinal vertebra. This force is delivered directly to the harness system.

"Decompression" itself is a "phenomenon" that takes place during a traction based treatment, that is, if it is done correctly on a machine capable of accomplishing it. The Triton® DTS computer is the key. It controls the variations in the traction pull allowing for spinal decompression and eliminating muscle guarding that is typical in conventional traction devices. The pre-programmed patterns for ramping the amount of axial distraction up and down allow for higher levels of spinal decompression and disc re-hydration by minimizing muscle guarding. This allows for the absolute highest level of decompression to occur ensuring the most effective treatment available. This insures the most comfortable and relaxing treatment possible; many patients even fall asleep during treatment!

  • Imbibing the Discs
The gentle stretching and relaxing of the spine fosters a phenomenon called “imbibition”.  In the simplest of terms, this is the way a normal disc gets nutrition.  Tobject.jpghis pumping action promotes nutrition intake into the discs, something often lost in damaged and degenerative disc conditions. In healthy discs, imbibition occurs naturally with daily motions and body positions, and accounts for the increase of disc thickness in the morning and decrease at night. A spinal disc having poor imbibition and with fewer nutrients and hydration is more likely to become injured and painful. Stretching or tractioning the spine in a controlled, comfortable manner can help re-establish a more normal imbibition pattern. This can re-supply the disc with nutrients and blood contact that helps the disc to heal from the inside out. Also, the dramatic decrease of pressure in the disc (decompression) can foster the potential drawing in of a bulge and help take pressure off a “pinched” spinal nerve.

Spinal decompression therapy cycles through distraction and relaxation phases creating a negative pressure called “vacuum effect” in the affected disc(s). This vacuum effect assists to create an influx of fluid and herniated disc material back into the disc(s) to help 're-inflate' them. This also helps stimulate new circulation to damaged disc structures to aid in healing.

As stated above, the object of decompression is to reduce the pressure inside the disc and facilitate the transfer of fluids, nutrients and oxygen back inside the disc. MRI Studies conducted have found that this method alone is successful in approximately 86% of cases. One study documented by MRI reveals up to 90% reduction of disc herniations in 10 of 14 cases! Another study reported that 86% of ruptured disc patients achieved "good" (50-89% improvement) to "excellent” (90-100% improvement) results after spinal decompression therapy alone!

  • Unique Combination of Healing Technology

The application of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is completely safe and very effective in decreasing symptoms by regenerating new cartilage, reducing inflammation and swelling around the disc(s) and joint(s), and providing significant pain relief. This is helpful in assisting to seal up the outer portions of the damaged disc in a method analogous to patching a hole in a leaky tire.

We have developed this combination of two state-of-the-art therapies for an unparalleled treatment effect. In essence, we accomplish two healing goals:

  1. We try to re-establish disc height, reduce bulging and disc herniation using non-surgical Triton® DTS Spinal Decompression treatments.
  2. We then try to assist healing the damaged disc tissue via Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), minimizing the chances of the disc injury relapsing. This brings our treatment effectiveness to an amazing success rate!

This LLLT therapy is completely safe and comfortable for almost everyone, with most patients reporting that therapy is relaxing and relatively pain free!

  • Re-establish Structural Support

Although most patients report dramatic reduction of their pain within as few as 5 to 6 therapy sessions, an injured spinal disc needs time to heal. This is why we urge you to be regular with your prescribed treatments and office visits. Research shows to completely heal some discs, a regular program of home exercises prescribed by your doctor will need to be followed. Spinal disc structures can take months to heal. Even though your pain may be gone, you must stay on the treatment program prescribed for you in order to maintain keeping your spine healthy.

As you become more mobile and more able to return to your normal lifestyle, your increased activity is what your spine needs most. Now you will be imbibing the discs naturally, like people with their healthy discs. Movement is life, and your spine depends on muscle activity to support it and create fluid movement into and from the discs.

PHASE II: Stabilization of Structure

  • Pain Is Under Control: Rehabilitate the Structures Supporting the Disc(s)

Most patients feel significant pain reduction in as few as 5 to 6 Triton® DTS therapy sessions. However, that does not mean the healing process is complete, or that your pain won’t return.

During Phase II of your
Triton® DTS therapy sessions, our office will prescribe a series of rehabilitative measures in order to more fully heal your discs and assist in keeping the pain from returning. Most low back pain suffers have two compounding problems that have contributed to their disc injury and limited their natural healing abilities:

  1.     Decreased spinal flexibility
  2.     Poor muscle control

A program of focused rehabilitative exercise, with Biofeedback, may begin during or after your Triton® DTS therapy course of treatment. Our rehabilitation program involves several clinically effective yet simple, pain-free activities including Biofeedback. Biofeedback allows you to monitor and control spinal motion and re-claim proper spinal movement patterns.

Strengthening the muscles that support the spine and regaining endurance in them is also vital for spinal health.

All the body systems must work in concert for optimum health. Nutritional and lifestyle advice will be provided as well as an at-home exercise program in Phase III. We can’t over emphasize the importance of the at-home exercises. What you do at home is integral to the overall success we have. Studies show consistent stabilization and endurance exercises control back pain and reduce injury. At what point you start the exercise program is a function of your pain and overall progress based on our findings.

PHASE III: Support of Muscular System

During Phase III, we’ll structure an in-office and/or a home-based exercise program that will help to bring your spine back to full health. This exercise program may include in-office resistance training, at home stabilizing exercises with resistance training and other “core” exercises.

Regular and consistent home-based exercise is one of the keys to long-term relief. We have found through experience the simple home-based exercises we prescribe are most effective. Introduction to low-tech movement exercises you can do to speed the healing process are one of the most important parts of the
Triton® DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy System.
