About The Smoking Cessation Program

The typical initial program session length is about 45 minutes to 1 hour. During this session, Dr. Pisarek will consult with you and review the health history form that you completed upon arrival at Advanced Healthcare to determine if you are a candidate to receive the laser treatment protocol. Going forward, Dr. Pisarek will then discuss 'tips' to assist you with the success of this program and provide you with educational material to take home.

Then, Dr. Pisarek will have you undergo a relaxation technique for a short period of time. Following this, the laser session will commence and be directed towards the following four 'key' areas:

1) nicotine addiction;
2) detoxification;
3) stress management and relaxation; and
4) metabolism.

A pencil-sized probe emitting a painless low-level laser beam of helium-neon and/or infra-red frequency light energy may be combined with electro-biostimulation which may produce a painless warm, tingling or pulsating sensation due to increased blood circulation. This light energy source is used to stimulate specific reflex (acupuncture) points on various parts of the body (which may include the face, ears, arms, hands, abdomen and legs) that releases the body's own natural endorphins, which have a calming effect on the central nervous system. This release of endorphins also replaces the physical dependency on nicotine and helps to alleviate the cravings, anxiety and other withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking.

There are no side effects or discomfort to the patient during or after the treatment. As a precaution, clients wear special protective glasses during the treatment to protect their eyes from the laser light. Laser therapy also helps to suppress the appetite and reduce stress and anxiety associated with quitting smoking; all at the same time.

Upon completion of the smoking cessation session, all patients will receive a smoker's package of educational material and will be taught various "self-administered" acupressure smoking cessation points to ensure ongoing success after the initial session.
