Teaming Up For Optimal Health
Corrective care treats conditions that are more severe, recurring or that have existed with or without pain for some time. These may require a longer, more complex period of care. Once the severity of your condition has decreased through initial relief care, corrective (rebuilding) care helps to restore normal function to your spine, muscles, supporting tissues and the nerves affected by them.
Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a person's care program. If all that the chiropractor does is to reduce the pain and stop there, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater.
At Advanced Healthcare, Dr. Pisarek believes that in order to prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving chiropractic care even though your symptoms are gone.
During this correction (restorative) phase of your care, you may not have to receive adjustments as often as you did during the "first" phase of initial care, and, depending on your particular circumstances, you may begin doing exercises and stretches either at our facility, at home or in a gym, to help accelerate your healing.
Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal and often is referred to as 'recovery symptoms' or 'retracing'. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not fully healed. Depending on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it, this phase of your care may last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.
During this 'rebuild' second phase of care, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent further injury. As Dr. Pisarek continues to adjust you, your body is being trained to rebuild itself in a healthier state. Subluxation patterns are being corrected, and your body's ability to adapt becomes enhanced and more dynamic. As stored tension is dissipated, you many also experience brief episodes of symptoms to those experienced under previous physical or emotional stress, referred to as 'retracing or recovery' symptoms. Patients typically report continued improvements in energy, relaxation and physical health.
In this corrective, rebuilding phase, it is ideally typical to need chiropractic care 4-8 times per month anywhere from 4-24 months... again, depending on your overall health, the nature, severity and chronicity of your particular problem(s) and rate/level of correction and recovery thus far.
